The Liverpool Echo, Radio Merseyside and Radio City are, probably the main sources of news for people living in, or just interested in, the city and its surroundings. They are all fine and professionals organisations, but equally, they are all part of much larger media groups. The Echo (and Post, Merseymart and half of Channel One) is owned by Trinity, the publishers of the Daily Mirror. Merseyside is, of course, part of the BBC while City shares its home with Smash Hits, The Box and FHM, to name a few. Although all have large newsgathering resources, they have their hearts away from the street. In addition, all these old media outlets are limited by space, meaning that even some of the things they'd like to cover they cant find space for. And sometimes, well, it can be just too much trouble. You hear very little of gay liverpool, young liverpool, bisexual liverpool, transvestite liverpool, broke liverpool, socialist liverpool, angry liverpool, third age liverpool, pagan liverpool. Always Liverpool offers a new way of sharing your news, opinions, announcements and whatever. The electrical ear permanently on the ground. The voices that have been quietened.
