Sho Biz
Taking place on Chapel Street, Salford and the surrounding area throughout
the weekends of October 2001
Chapel Street, a fresh new destination for cultural producers and consumers,
will play host to a plethora of cutting edge visual art events and exhibitions
throughout October 2001.
SHO1 has brought together over 80 contemporary artists from Manchester, Salford,
across the country and abroad and has selected the most promising emerging
artists to exhibit in a unique collection of venues ranging from white gallery
spaces, discreet yet grand churches, to vast raw chambers of a warehouse,
an old cotton spinning mill, and the expanse of streets and waste ground.
Offering a showcase unlike any other, SHO1 presents fine art, film, installation,
experimental sound and music, theatre, public art projects, where the artists
have been released to convey their ideas, unshackled by any narrow perception
of genre.
Supported by Salford City Council, Cultural Industries Development Service
(CIDS) and North West Arts Board, SHO1 has reached out and formed a network
with curatorial initiatives including The Castlefield Gallery, The Lowry Gallery,
The Cornerhouse, Kinofilm, East Street Arts, Flux Magazine and has opened
its doors to some of the most influential artists groups including Annual
Programme, Bono & Sting, The MART Network, Work & Leisure International,
The Mekons and many more.
SHO1 will intrigue, beguile and entertain people from the north and across
the country.
