One of the Warp labels finest acts brought their turntables and machines tour to Liverpools only true and current techno night, the now weekly Voodoo. Messrs Weatherall and Tenniswood a.k.a. Two Lone Swordsmen are on the road in support of their new album Tiny Reminders and so it was a (not quite) rammed to the rafters crowd that were treated to a live three hour set of aural and visual electro-techno jiggery-pokery.
On the male dominated dancefloors of techno land they dont come much
bigger than Andy Weatherall. Hes been around since the year dot and
the respect that the man commands in the world of dance music is massive,
which is what makes the fact that this night wasnt sold out completely
such a surprise. Maybe its the fact that Voodoo is now a weekly concern,
maybe it was the fact that not all of Liverpools student fraternity
had arrived back in the city. Who knows? I digress.
Voodoo never fails to deliver, bringing the biggest and best techno artists
from all over the world to little old Duke Street. Tonight was no different.
Two Lone Swordsmen, along with the ever faithful Voodoo resident Steve Shiels,
turned the crowd into a sweaty mass, controlling them with the banging throb
only techno can provide. Add to that throb the warped screeches and squiggles
the Two Lone Swordsmen take such pleasure in creating and you have on the
whole a room full of perspiring people, pounding fists, and faces being pulled
which would mortlfy ever mother. Overall a raging success.
At the end of the night as the happy hordes spilled out on to the street,
chewing foreheads and licking their eyes, jaws clenched in manic grins, you
get that happy feeling that it was going to be another one those years.
